Hi mum how are you doing at the moment. I am freezing to death here at tundra. Did you know that beneath the dirt is frozen ice!!! The plants here are perennials, That means that they come back each year from the same root. There are loads of animals in the summer but not in the winter! Hey mum do you think that you would like to come visit some time, I would love to see you soon.

Kia ora Joshua,
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see you making such awesome progress on the Summer Learning Journey programme this year. I enjoyed reading your letter home to your mom about your experiences in the tundra. It would be quite surreal, I think, to visit such a cold, barren place. I used to live in Canada and my dad is an outdoor education teacher who loves traveling to the north. In fact, he has been to parts of the Arctic that are really close to the tundra. He just loves the area! In fact, he loves it so much that he encouraged us to name our first ever pet (a dog) Tundra. Tundra was a Siberian husky and she was really beautiful. Unfortunately, we weren't able to give her enough exercise (despite taking her for two long walks every day) so we eventually had to give her to friends of ours who owned a farm. When she moved to the farm she was able to run and play all day and she just loved it!
Do you happen to have any pets at your house? I hope that you and your entire family are able to spend some really nice time together over the break. Our family is going to spend the evening at MOTAT (the Museum of Transport and Technology). We go there every year to look at the Christmas lights. It is a tradition that we started eight years ago when we moved to NZ (from Canada). Do you and your family have any special holiday traditions?
Wishing you and your family a lovely holiday season. I'll look forward to reading more of your work in the coming days and to posting comments. I know that Cia and Megan will look forward to doing the same thing.
Bye for now!
Rachel
